The Colts pulled out a nice win last night despite being generally outplayed by the Bengals most of the game.  Kerry Collins got the start at QB and he completed 5 of 10 passes for 45 yards without a TD pass or INT.  Dan Orlovsky finally showed signs of life last night as he completed 10 of 18 passes for 178 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs.  His TD pass to Taj Smith with 1:08 left in the game, sealed the win for the Colts.  Rookie RB Darren Evans led the way on the ground for the Colts in this game with 19 yards rushing on 10 carries (1.9 ypc) with 1 TD run.  He also caught 2 passes for 28 yards (14.0 avg) for the Colts.  WR Taj Smith was a beast for the Colts in this game with 140 yards receiving on 8 carries (17.5 avg) with 1 TD grab.  The Colts finished up with 45 yards rushing on 22 carries (2.0 ypc) and they also completed 15 of 28 passes (53.6%) for 212 yards as they only had the ball for 23:38 in this game.

The defense was in bend but don’t break mode for the Colts last night.  CB Kevin Thomas led the way for the Colts’ D last night with 12 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception.  Safety David Caldwell (8 tackles), safety Joe Lefeged (8 tackles) and LB Philip Wheeler (7 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 sack and 1 QB hit) also had nice games for the Colts last night.  LB Pat Angerer pitched in with a fumble recovery for the Colts.  The Bengals finished up with 159 yards on 37 carries (4.3 ypc) and they also completed 28 of 38 passes (73.7%) for 158 yards in this game.  The Colts finish the preseason with a 1-3 record.

The battle for the #3 QB spot is heating up for the Indianapolis Colts

The only way that the Colts will keep both 26-year old Curtis Painter and 28-year old QB Dan Orlovsky both on the roster is if Peyton Manning isn’t ready to go when the 2011 season starts.  So they are essentially duking it out for the #3 QB job now with Kerry Collins on board.  Painter has completed 19 of 37 passes (51.4%) for 266 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 INT (81.6 QB Rating) in the Colts’ first three preseason games.  Orlovsky has completed 15 of 36 passes (41.7%) for 208 yards with 2 TD passes and 3 INTs (44.7 QB Rating) during the preseason for the Colts.  Painter has the lead in the battle for the #3 QB job for the Colts heading into the final week of the preseason.

UPDATE:  (9/4/2011) – The Colts have released Dan Orlovsky.

The Colts came close to winning last night but the defense couldn’t hold as the Packers scored the last 11 points of this game.  Curtis Painter actually looked decent last night as he completed 11 of 21 passes for 171 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 INTs.  He did lose a fumble though.  Dan Orlovsky was so-so as he completed 4 of 9 passes for 30 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs.  Joseph Addai led the way on the ground for the Colts last night with 44 yards rushing on 8 carries (5.5 ypc).  He also caught 1 pass for 7 yards last night.  Rookie RB Delone Carter pitched in with 29 yards rushing on 7 carries (4.1 ypc) in this game.  WR Reggie Wayne led the way for the Colts in the passing game with 105 yards on six grabs (17.5 avg) with 1 TD grab.  WRs Chris Brooks (2 rec, 18 yards, TD) and David Gilreath (2 rec, 13 yards, TD) also pitched in for the Colts last night in the passing game.  The Colts finished up with 112 yards rushing on 27 carries (4.1 ypc) and they also completed 15 of 30 passes (50%) for 179 yards last night.

The defense had big time issues stopping the pass last night and it hurt them on the scoreboard.  CB Jacob Lacey (10 tackles), LB Ernie Sims (8 tackles) and LB Philip Wheeler (6 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 sack and 2 QB hits) led the way for the Colts’ D in this game.  DE Dwight Freeney (2 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 tackles for a loss and 2 QB hits) and safety Mike Newton (interception that he returned 39 yards) also made big impacts in the game for the Colts’ D last night.  The Packers finished up with 45 yards rushing on 19 carries (2.4 ypc) and they also completed 35 of 50 passes (70%) for 345 yards last night.  The Colts are now 0-3 on the preseason.

The Colts looked completely pitiful last night once again.  Curtis Painter had another tough game as he completed 5 of 10 passes for 40 yards with 0 TD passes or interceptions last night.  Dan Orlovsky wasn’t any better as he completed 7 of 17 passes for 67 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 interception.  RB Delone Carter led the way on the ground for the Colts last night with 25 yards rushing on 4 carries (6.3 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 7 yards (3.5 avg).  Javarris James pitched in with 11 yards rushing on 5 carries (2.2 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 26 yards (13.0 avg) last night.  TE Dallas Clark led the way in the passing game last night with 3 grabs for 20 yards (6.7 avg).  The Colts finished up with 55 yards rushing on 17 carries (3.2 ypc) and they also completed 12 of 27 passes (44.4%) for 95 yards as they only had possession of the ball for 23:31 last night.

The defense got pushed around by the Redskins last night.  Safety David Caldwell (8 tackles) and LB Kavell Conner (6 tackles) led the way for the Colts’ D last night.  LB Adrian Moten also had a very solid game with 4 tackles, 2 passes defensed and 1 interception last night.  The Redskins finished up with 215 yards rushing on 35 carries (6.1 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 30 passes (70%) for 200 yards in this game.  The Colts are now 0-2 on the pre-season.

The Colts looked horrible all the way around in this football game.  Curtis Painter started at QB in this game and he still looks lost.  He completed 3 of 6 passes for 55 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT.  Dan Orlovsky was a little better, as he completed 4 of 10 passes for 111 yards with 1 TD pass and 2 INTs.  QB Nate Davis was the third QB in the game and he completed 3 of 7 passes for 36 yards with 0 TD passes and 0 INTs.  Mike Hartline finished the game at QB by throwing 2 incomplete passes.  RB Darren Evans led the way for the Colts on the ground in this game with 52 yards rushing on 8 carries (6.5 ypc).  Rookie RB Delone Carter also looked pretty good as he rushed for 29 yards on 6 carries (4.8 ypc) in this game.  WR Taj Smith led the way in the passing game for the Colts with 1 grab for 44 yards and it went for a TD.  TE Tyson DeVree (2 rec, 42 yards) and WR Pierre Garcon (1 rec, 41 yards) also had solid games for the Colts last night.  The Colts rushed for 114 yards on 24 carries (4.8 ypc) and they also completed 10 of 25 passes (40%) for 202 yards last night but they only had possession of the ball for 23:43 in a pretty pathetic offensive performance.

LB Kerry Neal led the way for the Colts’ D in this game with 7 tackles.  LB Philip Wheeler and CB Kevin Thomas pitched in with 6 tackles apiece for the Colts last night.  The Rams finished up with 169 yards rushing on 41 carries (4.1 ypc) and they also completed 20 of 31 passes (64.5%) for 173 yards last night.  The Colts have a lot of work to do on both sides of the football.

The Colts didn’t look too good last night but they did have some guys who stood out.  Curtis Painter had another sub par game as he completed 9 of 20 passes for 114 yards.  Tom Brandstater was outstanding in this game for the Colts.  He completed 10 of 18 passes for 178 yards with 3 TD passes.  Allen Patrick led the way on the ground for the Colts in this game with 33 yards rushing on 8 carries (4.1 ypc).  Javarris James pitched in with 32 yards rushing on 11 carries (2.9 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 18 yards (9.0 avg).  RB Brandon James didn’t carry the ball in this game but he caught 4 passes for 56 yards (14.0 avg) and three of the receptions went for TDs!  WR Blair White led the way in the passing game for the Colts last night with 7 grabs for 132 yards (18.9 avg).  The Colts finished up with 91 yards rushing (3.3 ypc) and 279 yards passing in this game.

Rookie linebacker Pat Angerer led the Colts’ D once again in this game with 12 tackles and 1 tackle for a loss.  Fellow linebacker Ramon Humber pitched in with 8 tackles.  The Bengals finished up with 158 yards rushing (6.6 ypc) and 236 yards passing in this game.  The Colts finish the pre-season with a perfectly awful 0-4 record.

Joseph Addai is looking sharp this pre-season for the Indianapolis Colts

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,The Pre Season by admin on Friday 27 August 2010 at 1:25 pm

Joseph Addai is really looking good for the Colts this pre-season and they are hoping that it’s sign of things to come.  Addai has carried the ball 14 times for 84 yards (6.0 ypc) and he has also caught 5 passes for 75 yards (15.0 avg) this pre-season.  2nd year RB Donald Brown was supposed to mount a challenge to Addai’s playing time in 2010 but it just doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.  Addai is a great weapon for the Colts’ offense when he’s focused and motivated and that’s the look he’s sporting right now.

The Colts’ D and special teams were so poor last night that the Colts’ O couldn’t overcome it.  Rookie linebacker Pat Angerer led the way for the Colts’ D last night with 10 tackles and 1 QB hit.  Safety Antoine Bethea pitched in with 9 tackles last night.  The Packers rolled up 93 yards rushing (2.7 ypc) and 337 yards passing last night as they had possession of the ball for 37:08!  Packers’ PR Jason Chery returned a punt 75 yards for a TD in the fourth quarter last night for the final punch in the mouth to the Colts.

Peyton Manning looked so-so for him, completing 15 of 26 passes for 214 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 INT.  Curtis Painter finished up the game by completing 6 of 11 passes for 97 yards with 1 INT.  Joseph Addai led the way for the Colts’ offense in this game with 60 yards rushing (8.6 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 40 yards (20.0 avg).  Donald Brown could only muster 6 yards rushing on 5 carries (1.2 ypc) but he did score a TD.  WRs Reggie Wayne (7 rec, 96 yards, TD) and Pierre Garcon (2 rec, 42 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game for the Colts last night.  The Colts finished up with 81 yards rushing (4.0 ypc) and 308 yards passing in this game.

The Colts started out this game o.k. before fading again when the backups came in.  Peyton Manning completed 8 of 15 passes for 91 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT (which was returned 78 yards for a TD by Bills’ CB Terrence McGee).  Curtis Painter was light years better than he was in the pre-season opener on Thursday Night as he completed 5 of 6 passes for 97 yards with 1 TD pass.  Tom Brandstater made a very, very brief appearance as he threw one incomplete pass.  He also carried the ball 2 times for 13 yards but he lost a fumble.  Undrafted rookie Tim Hiller finished up this game for the Colts at QB and he completed only 1 of 5 passes for 7 yards and he lost a fumble.  Javarris James led the way for the Colts on the ground in this game with 29 yards rushing on 8 carries (3.6 ypc).  Devin Moore carried the ball 6 times for 26 yards (4.3 ypc) on Thursday Night.  But, Moore made his biggest impact on special teams in this game as he returned 4 kickoffs for 129 yards (32.3 avg) and he returned 2 punts for 51 yards (25.5 avg).  Donald Brown (4 car, 23 yards) and Joseph Addai (2 car, 13 yards, TD and 2 rec, 23 yards) also pitched in for the Colts running the ball.  WR Taj Smith made a huge impact in this game for the Colts as he caught 3 passes for 91 yards (30.3 avg) with a TD grab.  TE Jacob Tamme only caught 1 pass and it went for a 21-yard TD.  The Colts finished up with 112 yards rushing on 24 carries (4.7 ypc) and they also passed for 185 yards in this game.

The defense was on the field for a long time in this game (35:34) and that’s because they didn’t play too well.  CB Terrail Lambert (9 tackles, 2 passes defensed) and linebacker Pat Angerer (6 tackles) led the way for the Colts’ D on Thursday Night.  The Bills finished up with 144 yards rushing (4.2 ypc) and 223 passing yards against the Colts.

If the Colts learned anything in this game it’s that they better pray that nothing happens to Peyton Manning because they don’t have much behind him.  Manning looked sharp as usual completing 8 of 10 passes for 91 yards.  Curtis Painter was downright pathetic yesterday for the Colts.  He completed 9 of 19 passes for 64 yards with 3 INTs.  One of his INTs was returned 91 yards for a TD by Niners’ S Reggie Smith.  Tom Brandstater finished up the game at QB for the Colts by completing 8 of 12 passes for 34 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT.  Devin Moore led the way on the ground for the Colts in this game by carrying the ball 4 times for 26 yards (6.5 ypc).  Javarris James also had a solid game with 4 carries for 17 yards (4.3 ypc).  Joseph Addai carried the ball 5 times for only 11 yards (2.2 ypc) with a TD run and he also caught 1 pass for 12 yards in this game.  WR Blair White (4 rec, 38 yards) and TE Jacob Tamme (3 rec, 26 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game for the Colts yesterday.  The Colts finished up with 58 yards rushing (2.4 ypc) and 177 yards passing in this game.

Rookie LBs Pat Angerer (8 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 2 sacks and 2 QB hits) and Kavell Conner (6 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss) led the way for the Colts in this game.  The Niners finished up with 132 yards rushing (4.6 ypc) and 203 yards passing in this game.
