The Indianapolis Colts place Kerry Collins on I.R.

The Colts have placed 38-year old QB Kerry Collins on Injured Reserve (ending his season) due to a nasty concussion.  Collins played in 3 games for the Colts this year and he completed 48 of 98 passes (49%) for 481 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 INT (65.9 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 2 times for -1 yard (-0.5 ypc) this year.  So the quarterbacking will fall to Curtis Painter and Dan Orlovsky the rest of the 2011 season.

The Indianapolis Colts lose Joe Reitz for a while

The Colts have lost left guard Chris Reitz for the next few weeks.  He underwent arthroscopic knee surgery earlier this week.  Reitz played in 7 games (all starts) for the Colts so far this year.  This is a big blow to the Colts as they weren’t running the ball or protecting Curtis Painter too well before Reitz was injured.

The Indianapolis Colts lose Joseph Addai for a little while

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Injury Reports,Needs to Pick It Up by admin on Tuesday 11 October 2011 at 4:09 pm

The Indianapolis Colts will be without starting RB Joseph Addai for the next 1-3 weeks due to a hamstring injury.  Addai has played in 5 games for the Colts so far this year and he has carried the ball 56 times for 249 yards (4.4 ypc) with 1 TD run.  He has also caught 9 passes for 65 yards (7.2 avg) so far this year.  The Colts will need rookie Delone Carter and Donald Brown to step up while Addai is out of action.  Carter has played in all 5 games for the Colts so far this year and he has carried the ball 41 times for 125 yards (3.0 ypc) with 1 TD run.  He also has caught 2 passes for 12 yards (6.0 avg) so far this year.  Donald Brown has not been used too much this year.  He has played in all five games for the Colts so far this year and he has 8 carries for 38 yards (4.8 ypc) so far this year.  The Colts are going to miss Addai as he is by far the best all around back on the Colts’ roster.

The Indianapolis Colts lose OT Anthony Castonzo for a few weeks

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Injury Reports by admin on Thursday 6 October 2011 at 10:39 pm

The Indianapolis Colts will be without 23-year old rookie LT Anthony Castonzo for the next few weeks due to an ankle injury.  He has played in 4 games (all starts) for the Colts so far this year.  The Colts aren’t very deep on the O-Line, so this is a huge blow to the offense.  Curtis Painter will wish he had eyes in the back of his head until Castonzo is ready to return to action.

The Indianapolis Colts sign Quinn Ojinnaka and place Ben Ijalana on I.R.

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Injury Reports,The Draft Report by admin on Wednesday 5 October 2011 at 6:25 pm

The Colts have signed 27-year old G/T Quinn Ojinnaka.  Ojinnaka played in 8 games (0 starts) for the Patriots last year.  He has now played in 47 games (12 starts) in his first five years in the NFL.  Ojinnaka will probably get a lot of P.T. going forward, starting this weekend against the Chiefs.  22-year old rookie G/T Ben Ijalana will miss the rest of the year due to a torn left ACL.  He played in 4 games (0 starts) for the Colts this year.  He was a 2nd round pick of the Colts last April.

The Indianapolis Colts lose DT Eric Foster

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 5 October 2011 at 12:30 am

The Colts have lost 26-year old DT Eric Foster for a while (maybe the rest of the year) due to a dislocated right ankle.  Foster has played in all 4 games for the Colts so far this year and he has 12 tackles and 2 tackles for a loss.  Foster has now played in 49 games in his first four years with the Colts and he has 117 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 4 passes defensed, 6 sacks, 1 forced fumble and 3 fumble recoveries.  The Colts are thin on the interior of the D-Line, so this injury is going to hurt quite a bit.

The Indianapolis Colts place two players on I.R.

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Injury Reports by admin on Thursday 29 September 2011 at 10:27 pm

The Colts have placed 26-year old strong safety Melvin Bullitt and 31-year old linebacker Gary Brackett on the Injured Reserve List ending their seasons because of shoulder injuries.  Bullitt played in 2 games for the Colts this year and he had 11 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception.  He has now played in 50 games in his first 5 years in the NFL and he has 193 tackles, 5 tackles for a loss, 2 forced fumbles, 13 passes defensed and 7 interceptions.  The Colts are going to miss Bullitt going forward.  Gary Brackett played in 1 game for the Colts this year and he had 6 tackles, 1 interception and 1 pass defensed.  Brackett has now played in 116 games in his first 9 years in the NFL and he has 709 tackles, 15 tackles for a loss, 4 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, 29 passes defensed and 12 interceptions (1 returned for a TD).  Pat Angerer should do a solid job in Brackett’s old spot.

The Indianapolis Colts will be without two starting linebackers against the Browns this Sunday

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Injury Reports by admin on Thursday 15 September 2011 at 1:55 am

The Colts are going to be without middle linebacker Gary Brackett (shoulder) and OLB Ernie Sims (knee) against the Cleveland Browns this weekend.  Brackett had 6 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception and Sims had 1 tackle in the season opener against the Texans last weekend.  Pat Angerer will move inside to replace Brackett.  Angerer had 13 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 fumble recovery in the season opener.  He is a natural middle linebacker, so he should do a good job for the Colts this weekend.  Philip Wheeler will replace Angerer at outside linebacker.  He had 1 tackle against the Texans.  Kavell Conner will start in Sims’ place.  He had 5 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 2 passes defensed.  The Browns are likely going to give the Colts a very heavy dose of Peyton Hillis this Sunday, so they need Wheeler and Conner to step up.

Peyton Manning will miss at least the first 2-3 months of 2011 for the Indianapolis Colts

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Injury Reports by admin on Friday 9 September 2011 at 1:09 pm

35-year old QB Peyton Manning had his third neck surgery in the last 19 months yesterday morning.  This will cause him to miss at least the next 2-3 months and maybe the entire 2011 season.  This Sunday against the Texans will be the first time the Colts use another QB to start a game since the 1997 season, as Manning started every game in his first 13 years in the NFL (208 of them).  Manning is pretty impossible to replace.  He has been to the Pro Bowl 11 times in his first 13 years with the Colts.  He also has thrown for over 4,000 yards in a season 11 times in his career and he also has thrown for at least 30 TD passes in a season six times.  Manning will be missed as he is more valuable to his team than any QB in the NFL.

The Colts coaxed 39-year old QB Kerry Collins out of retirement and he is getting thrown into the fire this Sunday after only a couple weeks of practice.  Collins has been to two Pro Bowls (1996 and 2008) in his NFL career.  His career high in TD passes is 22 of them in his first 16 years in the NFL.  He has thrown for over 4,000 yards 1 time in his career and he has been over 3,000 yards six times.  Even with all of his experience in the NFL, Kerry Collins is a huge dropoff from Peyton Manning.  It will be up to the rest of the Colts to step up with Manning out of action if they are going to suddenly be a surprise team in the NFL.

The Indianapolis Colts have released Javarris James

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Injury Reports by admin on Sunday 4 September 2011 at 6:20 pm

The Colts have released 23-year old RB Javarris James.  James played in 10 games (0 starts) as a rookie for the Colts last year and he carried the ball 46 times for 112 yards (2.4 ypc) with 6 TD runs.  He also caught 9 passes for 63 yards (7.0 avg) and he returned 3 kickoffs for 16 yards (5.3 avg) last year.  The Colts won’t miss James too much as they look solid depth wise at RB heading into 2011.
