The Indianapolis Colts sign guard Josh Beekman

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Colts Chatter by admin on Wednesday 10 August 2011 at 8:09 pm

The Colts have signed 28-year old guard Josh Beekman.  Beekman didn’t play in any games in the NFL last year.  He has played in 28 games (20 starts) in his first three years in the NFL.  Beekman will likely make the team and get playing time for the Colts in 2011 as long as he can stay healthy.  This was a good signing for the Colts this late in the free agency game.

UPDATE:  (8/29/2011) – The Colts have released Josh Beekman.

The Indianapolis Colts sign DT Tommie Harris

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Colts Chatter by admin on Wednesday 3 August 2011 at 3:24 pm

The Colts have signed 28-year old DE Tommie Harris to a 1-year deal.  Harris played in 15 games for the Bears last year and he had 13 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1.5 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries and 1 pass defensed.  He has now played in 104 games in his first 7 years in the NFL and he has 213 tackles, 32 tackles for a loss, 28.5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 7 fumble recoveries, 5 passes defensed and 1 interception.  Harris will give the Colts’ quality depth on the D-Line, so I like this pickup for them.

UPDATE:  (9/4/2011) – The Colts have released Tommie Harris.

The Indianapolis Colts sign linebacker Ernie Sims

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Colts Chatter by admin on Wednesday 3 August 2011 at 3:21 pm

The Colts have signed 26-year old outside linebacker Ernie Sims.  Sims played in 15 games for the Eagles last year and he had 55 tackles, 5 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery and 5 passes defensed.  He has now played in 74 games in his first five years in the NFL and he has 476 tackles, 22 tackles for a loss, 4.5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, 10 passes defensed and 1 interception.  This was a good signing for the Colts as Sims is a hard hitter.  He will also bring speed to outside linebacker for the Colts as he is expected to start for them.

The Indianapolis Colts sign DE Jamaal Anderson

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Colts Chatter by admin on Tuesday 2 August 2011 at 3:58 am

The Colts have signed 25-year old DE Jammal Anderson to a 1-year deal.  Anderson played in 16 games for the Falcons last year and he had 21 tackles, 2 sacks, 3 tackles for a loss, 1 forced fumble and 1 pass defensed.  He has now played in 60 games in his first four years in the NFL and he has 105 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 7 tackles for a loss, 2 forced fumbles and 9 passes defensed.  The Colts hope that a change in scenery will spark Anderson’s career which has been a big disappointment so far.

The Indianapolis Colts sign QB Dan Orlovsky

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Colts Chatter by admin on Tuesday 2 August 2011 at 3:56 am

The Indianapolis Colts have signed 27-year old QB Dan Orlovsky.  Orlovsky played in 1 game for the Texans last year but he didn’t throw an passes or carry the football.  Orlovsky has played in 13 games (7 starts) in his first six years in the NFL and he has completed 150 of 272 passes (55.1%) for 1,679 yards with 8 TD passes and 8 INTs (71.3 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 7 times for 29 yards (4.1 ypc) in his NFL career so far.  Orlovsky is 0-7 as a starting QB in the NFL but in defense all of his starts came for the Lions in the season where they were 0-16.  Orlovsky will likely be Peyton Manning’s backup QB, as he should easily knock Curtis Painter down the depth chart.

The Indianapolis Colts sign LB Darry Beckwith

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Colts Chatter by admin on Tuesday 2 August 2011 at 3:51 am

The Colts have signed 24-year old linebacker Darry Beckwith to a 1-year deal.  Beckwith played in 1 game for the Chargers last year and he had 1 tackle.  Beckwith will get a shot on special teams in training camp to see if he can earn a spot on the roster.  The Colts better start to aim quite a bit higher in free agency if they are going to improve the team.

UPDATE:  (8/3/2011) – The Colts have released Darry Beckwith who didn’t even last 24 hours on the team.

The Indianapolis Colts sign Ken Hamlin

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Colts Chatter by admin on Friday 24 December 2010 at 5:24 am

The Indianapolis Colts have signed 29-year old safety Ken Hamlin.  Hamlin played in 7 games earlier this year for the Ravens and he had 3 tackles, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception.  Hamlin has now played in 105 games in his first 8 years in the NFL and he has 489 tackles, 50 passes defensed, 5 sacks, 5 forced fumbles and 15 interceptions.  This was a nice pickup for the Colts as Hamlin should be able to help out both the secondary and the special teams.

The Indianapolis Colts sign Dominic Rhodes

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Colts Chatter by admin on Wednesday 8 December 2010 at 1:19 pm

The Colts have signed 31-year old RB Dominic Rhodes.  Rhodes last played in the NFL in 2008 with the Colts.  Rhodes has now played in 96 games in his NFL career and he has carried the ball 777 times for 3,114 yards (4.0 ypc) with 26 TD runs.  He also has caught 146 passes for 1,021 yards (7.0 avg) with 4 TD grabs.  Rhodes could also help the Colts on special teams as he has returned 135 kickoffs for 3,122 yards (23.1 avg) with 2 TD returns.  Rhodes will likely be pressed into duty on offense right away by the Colts who are really hurting at RB.

The Indianapolis Colts sign Al Afalava and place Chip Vaughn on I.R.

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Colts Chatter,Injury Reports by admin on Thursday 25 November 2010 at 10:51 pm

The Indianapolis Colts have signed 23-year old saftey Al Afalava.  Afalava played in 13 games as a rookie for the Bears last season and he had 53 tackles, 7 passes defensed, 2 sacks and 1 forced fumble.  With the state of the Colts’ D right now I wouldn’t be surprised to see Afalava working a lot on defense as early as this weekend.  25-year old safety Chip Vaughn has been placed on the Injured Reserve List with a ankle injury ending his season.  Vaughn played in 3 games for the Colts last season and he had 1 tackle.

The Indianapolis Colts sign punter Jeremy Kapinos

Blogged under Big Colts News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Colts Chatter by admin on Thursday 28 October 2010 at 4:22 pm

The Colts have signed 26-year old punter Jeremy Kapinos.  Kapinos played in all 16 games for the Packers last season and he punted the ball 66 times for 2,891 yards (43.8 avg).  Kapinos had 10 touchbacks last season (15.2%) and he pinned the opposition inside their own 20-yard line 15 times (22.7%).  He has now played in 21 games in his three years in the NFL and he has punted the ball 88 times for 3,766 yards (42.8 avg).  Kapinos has 12 touchbacks (13.6%) in his NFL career and he has pinned the opposing team inside their own 20-yard line 24 times (27.3%).  It’s likely that Kapinos’ only game with the Colts will be on Monday Night against the Texans as the Colts’ regular punter, Pat McAfee is serving a 1-game team suspension for conduct detrimental to the team.
