The Indianapolis Colts sign Terrell Skinner

The Colts have signed rookie safety Terrell Skinner out of Maryland.  He was in camp with the Vikings who cut him loose.  Skinner had 3 tackles in his debut last night in the Colts pre-season game with the Bills.  It was a good first impression for a player whose going to have a hard time trying to make the Colts’ roster.

The Indianapolis Colts lose Jeff Saturday for a while

The Colts will be without starting center Jeff Saturday for the next 2-6 weeks due to knee surgery.  Jamey Richard will likely fill in at center until Saturday is ready to return to action.  Richard has played in 25 games (7 starts) in his two years with the Colts.  The Colts hope that Saturday returns soon because using Richard at center would be a huge dropoff.

The Indianapolis Colts sign Deshea Townsend

The Colts have signed 34-year old cornerback Deshea Townsend.  Townsend played in 16 games for the Steelers last season and he had 27 tackles, defensed 3 passes and he had 1 interception.  He has now played in 183 games in his 12 years in the NFL and he has made 439 tackles, defensed 122 passes, has 15.5 sacks, he’s forced 5 fumbles and he has 21 interceptions (3 of which he has returned for TDs).  Townsend will be a solid backup for the Colts in 2010 so I really like this signing for them.

The Indianapolis Colts claim QB Tom Brandstater off waivers

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Big Colts News, General Colts Chatter by admin on Wednesday 9 June 2010 at 12:23 pm

The Colts have claimed 25-year old QB Tom Brandstater off waivers from the Denver Broncos.  Brandstater was a sixth round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft out of Fresno State.  He didn’t get onto the field in his rookie year with the Broncos but he was good enough to stay on the roster the whole year.  With that in mind he could win the #2 or #3 QB job for the Colts this year if he can beat out Curtis Painter, Drew Willy and Tim Hiller.

The Indianapolis Colts select CB Kevin Thomas in the third round

Blogged under Bloglockers, The Draft Report, Front Page, Big Colts News, General Colts Chatter by admin on Saturday 24 April 2010 at 1:34 pm

The Colts have picked CB Kevin Thomas out of USC with the 94th overall pick (3rd round) of the NFL Draft.  Thomas is a bit lanky at 6′0″, 189 pounds and he isn’t the fastest corner around running in the 4.55 40 area.  Thomas played in 13 games (all starts) for USC last season and he had 56 tackles, 1 sack and he forced 2 fumbles.  In his 4 years at USC, Thomas played in 39 games (17 starts) in which he had 88 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and he had 3 interceptions (one returned for a TD).  Thomas missed all of 2007 with a shoulder injury.  He is not the most durable player around but if he can stay healthy he will help the Colts on special teams and as a nickel back this season with the potential for much more down the road.

UPDATE:  (8/31/2010) - The Colts have placed Kevin Thomas on I.R. with a knee injury ending his rookie year before it started.
