Indianapolis Colts vs. Houston Texans
This should be one of the best match-ups of the opening day weekend in the NFL. The Colts swept the Texans by scores of 20-17 in Indy and 35-27 in Houston last year. Here is a close look at the match-ups in this game:
When the Colts have the ball: The Colts act like they want to run the ball more in 2010 but I don’t think that will happen until week #2. I think Joseph Addai and Donald Brown are going to get some work in but I think Peyton Manning’s right arm will be carrying the offensive load in this game for the Colts. The Texans have a young secondary that will likely be in trouble trying to cover Reggie Wayne, Pierre Garcon, Austin Collie, Anthony Gonzalez and Dallas Clark in the passing game. I see the Colts having little trouble moving the ball in this game.
When the Texans have the ball: The Colts must be able to get to Texans’ QB Matt Schaub with DEs Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis. If Schaub has time to throw the ball the Colts will be in big, big trouble as CBs Jerraud Powers and Jacob Lacey are both gimpy right now. With the corners hurting that means it will be harder to double Andre Johnson. And if the plan is to double Andre Johnson then the Colts might be in trouble trying to deal with the very fast Jacoby Jones who is the #3 WR for the Texans. The Texans also look to have a better running game in 2010 so DTs Antonio Johnson, Daniel Muir and MLB Gary Brackett will have their hands full.
PREDICTION: TEXANS 37, COLTS 34
