Colts win a tough battle with the Dolphins 27-22

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page by ravenhater on Sunday 31 December 2006 at 10:24 pm

The Colts won this game because they have a better offense than the Dolphins, period. Peyton Manning completed 22 of 37 passes for 282 yards with 2 TDs. He also ran the ball 1 time, for an 11-yard TD run. Joseph Addai carried the ball 21 times for 64 yards. He also caught 3 passes for 29 yards. Dominic Rhodes ran well today with 9 carries for 42 yards (4.7 ypc). Marvin Harrison had a solid game, as usual, with 5 catches for 74 yards and a TD. Reggie Wayne also had a solid game with 6 catches for 70 yards. Dallas Clark had a decent game with 4 catches for 56 yards. Dan Klecko caught a 2 yard TD pass.

LB Cato June had a good game with 9 tackles, 1/2 sack and an interception. The Dolphins clobbered the Colts on the ground with 26 carries for 150 yards (5.8 ypc). The Dolphins also completed 18 of 36 passes for 204 net yards passing.

Indianapolis Colts vs. Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins have struggled the last 4 weeks as they’ve only scored 41 points in those games combined. So they’re going to start Cleo Lemon as they really have nothing to lose. The Colts have struggled lately as they’ve lost 3 of their last 4 games.

Look for the Dolphins to unleash Ronnie Brown (893 yards rushing) on the Colts terrible run defense that is allowing an absurd 174.5 yards rushing per game and 5.3 yards per carry this season. After the running game is established look for the Dolphins to run some play action passes to freeze the pass rush. Cleo Lemon will probably keep the passes short because the Colts do have a decent pass rush.

Look for the Colts to run the ball and try to keep the Dolphins offense on the sideline. That is easier said than done against a stout Dolphins run defense that is allowing 100.1 yards rushing per game and only 3.5 yards per carry. The Dolphins pass defense is leaky so Peyton Manning will get his yards throwing the ball even if the Colts are leaning towards the run. Manning (4,115 yards passing) shouldn’t have much trouble getting the ball to his 2 favorite receivers…..Marvin Harrison (90 rec, 1,292 yards) and Reggie Wayne (80 rec, 1,240 yards).

The Colts will force Cleo Lemon into a couple of mistakes that will cost the Dolphins the game on Sunday.

Colts playoff scenarios

The Colts have clinched the AFC South Division. They can clinch a first round bye with a win and a Baltimore loss.

The Colts should be able to do their part and beat the Dolphins in Indy……but, the Ravens should have little trouble winning at home against the Buffalo Bills.

Colts fall in last seconds 27-24 to Texans

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 25 December 2006 at 2:32 am

Once again, the Colts offense couldn’t keep up with their opponent, because the defense played lousy again. Peyton Manning had a solid game as he completed 21 of 27 passes for 205 yards and 3 TDs. Joseph Addai had a good game too with 15 carries for 100 yards (6.7 ypc). Marvin Harrison had another fantastic football game with 8 grabs for 112 yards and 2 TDs. Reserve TE Aaron Moorehead caught 1 pass and it was a 9 yard TD.

DB Marlin Jackson (14 tackles) and LB Gary Brackett (11 tackles) led the way for the Colts defense. Once again, the Colts couldn’t stop the opponent from running all over them. The Texans carried the ball 42 times for 191 yards (4.5 ypc). The Texans also completed 16 of 23 passes for 163 yards passing.

The Colts fell to 11-4 on the season and they will make an early exit in the playoffs if they don’t start playing better defense.

Indianapolis Colts vs. Houston Texans

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Wednesday 20 December 2006 at 7:00 pm

The Colts beat up on the Bengals on Monday Night football 34-16 to break their 2 game losing streak. The Texans have lost two games in a row and were soundly thumped 40-7 last week against the Patriots.

The Colts will likely be able to do whatever they want on offense. The thought here is that the Colts will throw the ball to get a lead and then grind out the win on the ground. Peyton Manning (3,910 yards passing) should have no trouble throwing the football all over the place against the Texans. The Texans are allowing 218.6 net yards passing per game and Manning had a good game in their first meeting. Marvin Harrison (82 rec, 1,180 yards) and Reggie Wayne (77 rec, 1,213 yards) should both have big games. Joseph Addai (917 yards rushing) should be back for this game after leaving last week’s game early, but if he’s not Dominc Rhodes (584 yards rushing) can carry the load. The Texans have allowed 122.5 yards rushing per game and 4.2 yards per carry so far this season.

The Texans would be smart to run Ron Dayne and Wali Lundy right at the heart of the Colts defense and try to shorten the football game while keeping Peyton Manning & Co. on the sideline. The Colts have the worst run defense in the NFL as they are allowing a whopping 173.4 yards rushing and 5.4 yards per carry so far this season. After the running game is established, look for David Carr (2,518 yards passing) to take some deep shots to Andre Johnson (97 rec, 1,087 yards) and Eric Moulds.

The Colts won the first meeting 43-24 against the Texans. I look for a similar type of final score that favors the Colts.
