Colts defense rises to seal 17-16 victory over the Bills
The Colts defense led the Colts to victory on Sunday…..for once. Rookie safety, Antoine Bethea tied for the team lead with 9 tackles. LB Cato June was the co-leader with 9 stops. Rob Morris had a good game filling in for Gary Brackett with 8 tackles. DE Robert Mathis (2 sacks) and DT “Booger” McFarland (4 tackles, sack) each were disruptive along the defensive line. The Colts held the Bills to 111 yards rushing on 31 carries (3.6 ypc). The Bills completed 9 of 13 passes for only 51 net yards passing!
Peyton Manning was efficient today, completing 27 of 39 passes for 236 yards and a TD. Joseph Addai was busy with 13 carries for 78 yards (6.0 ypc) and a TD, he also caught 7 passes for 46 yards. Dominic Rhodes also had a good game with 14 carries and 72 yards (5.1 ypc). TE Ben Utecht had a decent game with 7 catches for 66 yards, but he lost a fumble that was returned for a TD by the Bills. Reggie Wayne only caught 4 passes for 42 yards and a TD. Marvin Harrison was really shut down by the Bills as he only caught 2 passes for 21 yards.
Great teams find a way to win even when they aren’t playing their best ball, and that’s exactly what the Colts did today to improve to 9-0.
