Colts vs. Redskins

Blogged under Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Thursday 19 October 2006 at 12:05 am
The Redskins are a desperate team after losing to the Titans at home and falling to 2-4. A loss against the Colts will really hurt any chance the Redskins have of returning to the playoffs this season. The Colts have had two weeks to get ready for the Redskins as they are coming off their bye week with a 5-0 record.

When the Redskins have the ball, Brunell will be handing off to Clinton Portis (371 yards rushing) alot. And when Portis needs a breather, it’s LeDell Betts turn (223 yards rushing) to run the ball. The Colts defense has been absolutely horrible against the run, allowing 166.8 yards rushing and 5.2 yards per carry. After the Colts get the run game going, look for Mark Brunell to take some deep shots down the field to Santana Moss (25 rec, 415 yards). It would really help the Redskins offense if Antwaan Randle El or Brandon Lloyd could do anything to take the double-coverage off of Moss.

The Colts will try to run the ball to keep their pitiful defense off the field. The Redskins allow 111.0 yards rushing per game, so the Colts should have some success. Dominic Rhodes (273 yards rushing) and rookie Joseph Addai (269 yards rushing) have done a good job replacing Edgerrin James so far. The Colts will never be shy about throwing the football. Peyton Manning (1,278 yards passing, 95.6 QB rating) should be able to have a field day against the Redskins secondary which allows 222.2 yards passing per game and has allowed 10 TD passes. WRs Marvin Harrison (32 rec, 442 yards) and Reggie Wayne (21 rec, 382 yards) should have monster games.

The Redskins have a chance in this game, if Clinton Portis goes over 150 yards rushing. Unless that happens, the Colts will win this game easily.

Colts trade for defensive tackle

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Big Colts News by ravenhater on Tuesday 17 October 2006 at 10:09 pm

The Colts today traded for defensive tackle Anthony “Booger” McFarland. The Colts gave up a second round pick in the 2007 draft. Coach Dungy knows McFarland well from their days together in Tampa, but it seems like they paid a high price for a 29 year old player that has 8 tackles this season. McFarland is 6′0″, 300 pounds. For his career, McFarland has played in 98 games, has 219 tackles and 20 sacks. Dungy is hoping that McFarland can help with the run defense, which is allowing 166.8 yards rushing per game and 5.2 yards per carry!

Two Colts that can’t be blamed for the awful defense

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page by ravenhater on Tuesday 17 October 2006 at 2:50 am

The two Colts that can’t be blamed for the awful defense so far are a couple of the linebackers. Gary Brackett (47 tackles) and Cato June (46 tackles) have tried their best to make up for a terrible defensive line. The fact that they have as many tackles as they do is amazing, due to all the blocks they’ve had to fight thru to get to the backs.

What happenes next with a 5-0 team without defense?

The defense is sickning right now. Something has got to CHANGE. I’m not sure why the defense is playing terrible. They have lost composure it seems like. Hopefully when Bob Sanders comes back he will be able to get the defense back on track. But others NEED to step up. The linebackers have been pathetic, Gilbert Gardner especially. They are playing horrid. They do look bored.

Maybe soon the Colts will change, how will this team fare when they need to win, all that matters in Janurary. But they need to CHANGE now.Â

Colts somehow undefeated heading into the bye week

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page by ravenhater on Wednesday 11 October 2006 at 8:29 pm

Coach Dungy has to be very happy that his team is 5-0. They have been horrible on defense and have been real lucky. The Colts need to work on their run defense which is allowing 166.8 yards per game and 4.7 yards per carry. That has to change if the Colts have dreams of winning the Super Bowl.  The pass defense hasn’t played too well either as opposing QBs have a QB rating of 84.2 against the Colts.

The Colts should probably open the offense back up and take their chances. Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne are the three best players on the offense and they’re not being utilized to the fullest. Dungy will have to get aggressive and go for the throat early in the game, because they won’t be able to come back late in the game every week.
