Adam Vinatieri has injured ankle

The injury is severe in nature, and some sources are reporting that it’s broken. Vinatieri will surely miss some time at the start of the regular season. Reports have been vague on the injury, but as soon as anything is official, we’ll get it to you.

Colts sign running back Jonathan Wells

After the injury to James Mungro, the Colts needed another running back…..so they signed Wells. Wells we begin as the #3 running back, but he could move up quickly if the backs in front of him don’t produce. Wells has played in 60 games (18 starts) and has run the ball 374 times for 1,167 yards (3.1 ypc) and 10 TDs. Don’t be too alarmed by the average of 3.1 yards per carry, because the Colts have a much better offensive line than the Texans did.

Current Colts odds

The over/under for Colts wins in 11 1/2. The Colts are currently 11-2 to win the Super Bowl and 14-5 to win the AFC.

I suggest a small play on the over as I project the Colts to win 12 games this season. That seems like a fair price on the Super Bowl too.

Colts not impressive in 27-14 victory over Saints

Sure, the Colts won by 13 points, but this game exposed some flaws. The Colts still can’t run the ball, and it’s starting to look like the Colts need to control the clock to keep their over-rated defense off the field. Peyton Manning had another good game, connecting on 14 of 25 passes for 165 yards and a TD. Shaun King also played well connecting on 8 of 15 passes for 120 yards with a TD and 1 interception.

The running game was downright awful again. The Colts only averaged 1.6 yards per carry for the game and had 60 total yards rushing. It looks as if none of the running backs want Edge’s old job. Dominic Rhodes ran the ball 7 times for 21 yards. Joseph Addai carried the ball 9 times for 12 yards (1.3 ypc) and a TD.

WR Reggie Wayne caught 6 passes for 47 yards and a TD. TE Dallas Clark looked really good catching 3 passes for 66 yards.

The Colts better tighten up the defense. The Saints were moving the ball at will even though they didn’t put up many points. The Saints only ran the ball 14 times, but they had 117 yards rushing for an average of 8.4 yards per carry! The Saints also sliced and diced the Colts secondary, completing 65.8% of their attempts for a net of 264 yards passing.

Colts must be concerned about running back play so far

I know, I know, it’s just the pre-season. The Colts still must be a little worried about the poor play they’ve been getting from the running backs so far. Dominic Rhodes has carried the ball 10 times for 25 yards (2.5 ypc). Joseph Addai has carried the ball 12 times for 20 yards (1.7 ypc). The Colts need the running game to be a threat or teams will play nickel and dime coverages all day to stop Manning and the wide-outs.
